End of Term 2 Reflection

Reading: This term we made our novel studies and we looked at Character Analysis which included Physical appearance, Personality traits, Growth, and relationships. After this, we used the information we had gathered to create an essay. The next task was main events and a summary, then mapping where we looked at the setting of the story. Connections were very important and there were three types of them; text to self, which means how we can connect to the book, text to text, which means have we read any books similar to the book and text to the world, which is about how the book has similarities to everyday life. Passage Picker was the author's purpose and the words they used to show emotions to the reader. I think that all my 'passages' were about the emotion of happiness, and one of them was about the first time Greg was racing in a rally.
'My fingers relax a bit. I stop trying to brace my feet. I breathe properly and my heart steadies. But that doesn't stop the blood racing around the old veins! This is flying! This is magic!

Writing: A fun filled term full of creative narratives, competitions and a number of reports. Elsie Locke competition was this term and we had to write a meagre seven hundred words. I had writer's block, but a few days later ideas came flying from my head. The words poured on the page and I discovered that I was a hundred words over the limit. The next few days were spent feverishly editing and replacing words until I had it right where I wanted it. Ahh! Perfect!

Barfoot and Thompson took us on a wild ride of imagination and I wrote about a boy who bought an old, dirty horse, who turned out to be a lost pegasus. My quick writes buckled under the number of prepositions I loaded on them. Writers camp was fun and our goal was to write 5000 words. I managed to reach 30%

Maths: Division man was a big help when we learned about long division.
Multiplication was occupied with various strategies like proportional adjustment, SWF, PVP and reversibility. Quickfire was studded with pi, formulas and exponents such as 10 to the power of 15 which is obviously a quadrillion! And that was only the first part! Statistical investigation and literacy were the next part of our term and we learned about mean, median, mode and range. In groups of two to five, we created a statistical investigation based on what we wanted to change in the school and our community. My buddy was Emily T and our focus was to brighten up the school using murals and plants. Our presentation was great and we successfully used cue cards.
